A Shepherd Boy tended his master’s Sheep near a dark forest not far from the village. Soon he found life in the pasture very dull. All he could do to amuse himself was to talk to his dog or play on his shepherd’s pipe.
One day as he sat watching the Sheep and the quiet forest, and thinking what he would do should he see a Wolf, he thought of a plan to amuse himself. His Master had told him to call for help should a Wolf attack the flock, and the Villagers would drive it away. So now, though he had not seen anything that even looked like a Wolf, he ran toward the village shouting at the top of his voice, “Wolf! Wolf!”
As he expected, the Villagers who heard the cry dropped their work and ran in great excitement to the pasture. But when they got there they found the Boy doubled up with laughter at the trick he had played on them. A few days later the Shepherd Boy again shouted, “Wolf! Wolf!” Again the Villagers ran to help him, only to be laughed at again.
Then one evening as the sun was setting behind the forest and the shadows were creeping out over the pasture, a Wolf really did spring from the underbrush and fall upon the Sheep.
In terror the Boy ran toward the village shouting “Wolf! Wolf!” But though the Villagers heard the cry, they did not run to help him as they had before. “He cannot fool us again,” they said.
The Wolf killed a great many of the Boy’s sheep and then slipped away into the forest.
Moral: If you keep lying, no one will believe you even if you are speaking the truth. Always speak the truth.

The manipulation of the masses is a common goal for those who seek power. The tools used depend on the emotional mind- set manifested in the individual/individuals they strive to manipulate. How a particular mind-set is developed or created is the manipulation factor.
Creating an extremism or extreme behavior is a component of desperation and desperation can be a very useful tool in manipulation of the public mind-set. Extremism can only flourish in an environment where basic governmental social responsibility for the welfare of the people is neglected. Political dictatorship and social hopelessness create desperation that fuels extremism. You can’t separate desperate politicians from violence and trouble. We can’t listen to politicians who seek to build a domain of hopelessness and expect the destitute to pay for the desperation they created. Like the Indian chief said “you are not worth listening to”.
Throughout our society desperation runs ramped. The world needs strong people that other people can believe in. Society needs strong individuals to lift the weak out of desperate situations. Desperation can make a person do surprising things. People never know what they are capable of until all other options have run out. It is times like these, when in a desperate situation, a person will take whatever madness is offered to escape the darker madness in which they find themselves trapped.
There are no ethical problems for a desperate person. Believe it or not, a desperate person tries harder than a disciplined person. But when a person spends their day thinking about survival, discomfort and hunger their desperation fuels them to believe idiocy is insight and any nation that teaches and makes its people look for miracles is making its people shallow and cancels the possibility of empathy. Lack of empathy is what makes us unkind.
Happiness isn’t something a person spends much time thinking about when survival, discomfort and hunger are the concerns that fill their day. Why is it that we think it is always everything we don’t have that’s going to solve our problems? We can’t go through life waiting for all our problems to go away before we are happy. The only way to fill the gaping hole within us is to be thankful for what we have not to be angry at what we don’t. When the question is asked “is your cup is half-full or half empty” you might be amazed at how many people don’t even have a cup.
When misfortune has thrown you a curveball, and the tentacles of desperation wants to freeze your mind into confusion, you must inflame the power of your imagination. We can’t ever let desperation take the seat of inspiration that resides within us. We have to always strive to live inspired no matter what. Even though something might be wrong somewhere, something is always right somewhere else. If you have life, be alive and smile.
Remember the sea may seem endless when you are in a rowboat, but at least you have a boat.
