Aboul Gheit: The Baghdad summit is an important step to support Iraq’s sovereignty

Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, affirmed today, Thursday, that the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership represents an important step to support Iraq’s sovereignty and keep it away from disputes and a key to the stability of the Arab Mashreq.
In his speech at the opening of the Arab foreign ministers meeting held in Cairo, Aboul Gheit said that “the Baghdad conference, which was held last August, represents an important step that gives the right message to all parties. That “a prosperous, stable and secure Iraq is the definite interest of all its neighbors.”
He added, “The dialogue between the regional parties should be based on a clear basis and on the basis of countries’ respect for each other, according to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs.”
On the other hand, Aboul Gheit added, “The Palestinian cause is still alive and vibrant and able to mobilize international support and that it enjoys a comprehensive Arab consensus on its main principles,” noting that “launching a political process on the basis of the two-state solution and returning to the borders of June 4, 1967 represent the only way.” For a real, lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.” LINK
