I know this is a holiday season for everyone. I also am aware that many people are suffering just as we are from unemployment, lack of income, lack of food stamps and medication, etc. I have repeatedly applied and have been turned down from state and federal agencies for our basic needs. I even filed for my taxes in May and still have not received a refund, nor any type of correspondence or verbal communication. My co-workers who were manipulating agencies while employed are now receiving unemployment and stimulus checks; I choose transparency and integrity!
I lost my job in March in the first wave of COVID, my agency downsized from 150 servers to 8 rotating staff members. We did everything; dishes, maintenance, cleaning the restaurant from top to bottom and serving, (which was our primary job). They even brought more managers in to cook and do laborious jobs in prepping and cooking to keep the restaurant going, but it wasn’t enough. Eventually, I got let go like everyone else.
I took another position where COVID was spreading throughout the restaurant and let that position go when my vehicle was repossessed. I lived 17 miles away with no bus transportation. I remain homeless living in a place they call a “food dessert.” We are only allowed help from one pantry in which we are zoned and you can only request two times per month, (only if they have food supplies). However, they don’t help with medicine, personal female items, clothing, shoes, water, nothing.
I’ve been applying for jobs and repeatedly turned down. The only response I get is, “You’re over qualified!” Over-qualified people need to eat too! I have taken all types of information off of my resume to get a job and now it has become about my age. I know age discrimination is against the law, but the reality is when I offer my information, I get turned down. I’ve applied to work remotely because of lack of transportation; still nothing.
We need food. We need medicine. We need basic household items like detergent to wash our clothes. We need transportation to the stores because we also don’t live in a bus zone. Someone has been generously providing for our housing. They NEVER complain, but I don’t want to continue to be a burden asking for food, medicine and everything else. THEY ARE MY PERSONAL ANGEL SENT FROM GOD HIMSELF BUT CHOOSES TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS!
The storage company is also threatening us weekly to sell everything we own. If you have money to share, please donate. Patrick will take all donations on our behalf! Thank you in advance for your giving in a season where we ALL are struggling!
May God bless you richly!
