“Blessed to Save a Life Today” by Michael Murdock – 3.6.22

Today, I was blessed that I have an understanding of dogs and especially Italian Greyhounds and was able to save a life.

I was driving though a neighborhood on my way back to a one day dog sit that I am doing for a client whose dog I’ve watched in the past. I noticed a group of cars stopping, and then I saw the reason why they had all come to a halt and no one knew what to do.

In the road, zipping around each car was an Italian Greyhound, barking and running past all the people, causing a jam. I pulled over, and made it seem like I was the owner of the dog, the cars one by one pulled away.

I saw some kids walking towards me and it turns out they were the owners of the dog, they had been playing with him on a leash and then one of them undid the leash and the dog bolted from them and ran as fast as it could up the streets.

If you know anything about Italian Greyhounds, they are FAST & can jump high as well. How fast?? The fastest of this breed has been clocked at just over 35MPH. So watching this one run today back and forth and in circles was a real treat. I was able to lure the dog into some grass near a school, then got him to calm down, and tricked him to jump into the front seat of my car where he felt safe out of the street.

When the kids finally arrived near the car, we slowly opened the door and let the larger kid take hold of the dog in his arms and we all walked to their house where they leashed the dog once again, and now he’s safe and out of the street.

I felt really blessed to be a part of the rescue of this amazing dog. I didn’t have my phone on my to take a picture of the dog that was rescued but I was able to find a picture of an Italian Greyhound that looks similar to the one that was saved.

I’m thankful that God has gifted me with an ability around dogs to let them feel comfortable and to trust me so that they will feel safe and calm down. Today is a great day in my life and I thank God that I was in the area and was able to help.

If you have one of these dogs, please be careful with them. They are amazing beings and we are gifted with their presence in our lives.

Peace be with you all this day and always.
