7th March, 2022
The Ministry of Communications participated in the workshop on Iraq’s accession to the World Trade Organization, the SAAVI project, which was held under the auspices of the International Trade Center ITC at Babylon Hotel in Baghdad, in the presence of a number of ministries and government agencies.
The ministry’s media said in a statement: “He represented the Ministry of Communications, Director-General of the Administrative and Financial Department, Basem Al-Asadi, and the Assistant Director-General of the Department of Foreign Relations and Information, Aqeel Al-Issa,” adding that “the workshop was within the framework of international cooperation between the Ministry of Trade and the International Trade Center ITC funded by the European Union.”
For the purpose of resuming the implementation of the axes of the plan previously developed with the Center, specifically the fourth axis related to strengthening trade policy in Iraq to support Iraq’s accession process to the World Trade Organization, which extends for the period from 2021-2025, in order to complete the economic reforms related to the accession process.
The statement indicated that “many axes were discussed, which aim to liberalize the services that link Iraq with international laws, such as allowing foreign companies to provide Internet service in Iraq, which provides various services at competitive prices for the Iraqi citizen.”
Iraq’s accession to the organization provides competitive opportunities in all other service fields.
