There was some confusion around my previous email where opening an account at the bank was concerned so I did some looking into this and will clarify for those who were confused.
1. Can you open a US BANK account with foreign currency. The answer is YES you can. However, there a few caveats to know about. First off, you would have to be a foreign citizen doing this as there are regulations around US CITIZENS opening an account in foreign currency. Why would you do that when you’re a US CITIZEN doing business in US DOLLARS? The account will be flagged and monitored from the moment it’s opened. You do NOT want this!
2. If you are able to open the account in foreign currency, say EUROS, the account will hold EUROS, not DOLLARS. The EUROS will have to be converted into DOLLARS and there will be a conversion fee charged EVERY TIME. The conversion costs will then be 1% – 3% of the amount you wish to have converted, but your account will be a EUROS account in an American Bank.
Do you wish to pay 1-3% in fees every time you wish to exchange your currency to US DOLLARS? I didn’t think so.
Also if you don’t have a friend you can trust with your money to help you open an account, FIND NEW FRIENDS!!! Or call me and I will make time to fly to each of your towns and help you with your banking issues, one at a time until everyone has exchanged their money and I would do this for free, because that’s what BEING OF SERVICE means. You do it because you can & you do it FREE.
Sorry for the confusion earlier. I hope this makes sense, and YES this was VERIFIED with multiple banks this morning.
