“This is a Strange One” by Bolo – 4.23.22

This is a strange one ..

It is not so much the job did not materialize ..

It is more the employer just went “missing in action” ..

It is like literally he simply disappeared off the planet ..

I say strange, because it began when I needed a “jump” for a d**d battery ..

I was in a supermarket parking lot in a major Texas city ..

I searched and found a person who thought he had jumper cables and/or his “jumper box.”

Turned out he had neither with him, but said he only lived a mile away so he said he would come back and help me ..

In fact, he did!

It seems it took no more than 10 minutes for me to wait ..

How many actually say and DO that these days?

We got my car started and I was good to go ..

He then noticed the condition of my car, and the signs that I was living in it ..

He offered further to fill up my gas tank, or give me cash ..

I had just filled my tank, and I took the cash he offered ..

In addition to that, he noticed that my back window was missing and secured by plastic sheeting and duct tape ..

And that I needed some additional duct taping, as the current tape was in need of replacement ..

He went to his truck and gave me some “industrial grade” duct tape ..

We got to talking further and he thought it cool that my first name was the same as his father’s ..

We exchanged phone numbers, and he said he had a small shop and that he could offer me some work ..

Well, about a week later I took him up on his offer ..

When I called him, he answered on the first ring ..

At that time, he was out of town and said to check back with him in a couple of days at a specific time (early afternoon) ..

This is when it got strange and downright — weird!

I called him back as agreed (assumed he was expecting my call), and the phone ran off the hook ..

So I left a voicemail ..

Waited a couple more hours, and tried again ..

Same result, and left a second voicemail ..

Since it was a mobile number, I also sent a text for good measure ..

Long story short, no response at all from him ..

I tried again the next day, and everyday for the remainder of the week ..

No response at all ..

I was dumbfounded (and still am) ..

It is simply not characteristic of someone to assist you like they did at first and then agree to receive a call later in a specific time frame and simply disappear!

I can only assume that something bad happened .. (And do hope that is not the case!)

I had another instance where another long-term friend of mine said he was doing 24 hour shifts of driving a fuel truck in West Texas ..

One day he just disappeared ..

No response to calls, texts, or even emails .. (Which is not characteristic of him)

And within that last month, we had met in person and had dinner together ..

And he was a definite “red pill” individual (though not a currency holder) ..

So we had very much in common, and had met in 2003 ..

He even helped me secure some employment in 2010 .. (oil/gas field work)

He disappeared from me in 2020 ..

So I am stupefied over this because I was really looking forward to working with this guy ..

I do have another potential lead next week, from another trusted source ..

This mainly due to Gov Abbott mandating no masks (I cannot wear a mask long-term due to a chronic sinus condition) ..

It is a corporate employer, so we will see how that goes ..

I, like many others do hope that those measures will not be necessary ..

That combo of Charlie Ward’s announcement on Friday, together with both Bruce and Nick Fleming agreeing on ISO20022 implementation by Monday ..

We will in fact have our “perfect storm” for release of funds this coming week ..

If not, then I have to hope for success next week with that corporate employer lead ..

In the meantime, I am still in need of some assistance ..

I do realize it is tough, and getting tougher for even the best (condition) of us right now ..

These “near d***h” scenarios are affecting us all ..

So for those that …………… can ..

I do appreciate it ..

Till we can ALL go Home!
