Anouz: We are currently working on issuing a parliamentary resolution obligating the government to submit the budget

Head of the Legal Committee in the House of Representatives, Representative Mohamed Anouz, announced on Thursday that work is currently being done to issue a parliamentary resolution obligating the government to submit the budget, while noting that the constitution did not prevent the caretaker government from sending bills to Parliament.

Anouz told the official newspaper, and the independent follower, that “the political blockage led to the delay in approving the budget and the disruption of draft laws, which cast a shadow on the economic situation of the country and the living reality of citizens.”

He pointed out that “there are about 120 laws that have been transferred from the previous parliamentary session to this session, some of which affect the economic aspect.”  link

The Iraqi market temporarily suspends its activity

Shafaq News/ The Iraq Stock Exchange announced, on Thursday, the suspension of its activity for a period of five days.

The market said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “Based on the decision of the Council of Ministers to declare a five-day official holiday on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, the trading sessions will not be organized, starting from the first of May until the 5th of the same month.”

He added, “The activity will be practiced after the official holiday, and starting from Sunday, May 8, according to its official timings.”

It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Stock Exchange organizes five trading sessions per week from Sunday to Thursday, and includes 103 Iraqi joint stock companies representing the sectors of banking, telecommunications, industry, agriculture, insurance, financial investment, tourism and hotels.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers decided to suspend official working hours during the next week on the occasion of the Labor Day and Eid al-Fitr.

Iraq opposes imposing embargo and economic sanctions on Russia

On Thursday, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein said that his country, in principle, opposes imposing blockade and economic sanctions on any people, in a clear reference to Russia.

This came during his meeting with the Dutch Minister of Trade and Development Cooperation, Licia Srinemacher. During the meeting, the minister affirmed Baghdad’s keenness to strengthen bilateral cooperation mechanisms at various levels in a way that achieves the common interests of the two friendly peoples, especially the activation of the Iraqi-Dutch joint committee, which will reflect on development and cooperation in the investment and investment sectors. Pointing out that the support provided by the Dutch side to Iraq shows the distinguished level of relations between the two countries in the field of agriculture, irrigation and all other fields.

In a statement issued by the ministry today, the minister stressed Iraq’s quest to establish the best relations, the importance of achieving partnership between Iraq and the Netherlands, and the continuation of cooperation in the training, trade and agricultural sectors. Noting that Iraq is a fertile environment for investment; Because of its many wealth, he called for the necessity of the Netherlands’ participation in the reconstruction of infrastructure, and to benefit from its expertise in the field of water resources management.

The statement added that the minister reviewed the efforts of the Iraqi government in dealing with the issue of migration, and the measures it has taken to return Iraqis stranded at the borders of a number of European Union countries such as Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, through special flights organized by Iraqi Airways, stressing the importance of continuing the migration dialogue. Existing with the European side, and supporting programs to encourage the voluntary return of Iraqi refugees in European countries by preparing special programs to rehabilitate this segment.

The Minister also presented a summary of the steps taken by the Iraqi government to combat smuggling networks and the solidarity of national authorities to raise societal awareness and clarify the disadvantages and consequences of migration.

The two sides discussed current issues on the Iraqi, regional and international arena and topics of common interest, as well as the latest developments of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The Minister stressed that Iraq, in principle, is opposed to imposing a siege and economic sanctions on any people, and in the same sense does not support aggression from One country against another.

Hussein said the Iraqi people had suffered a lot; Because of the scourge of war, Iraq is against wars and the policy of imposing an economic blockade because it targets peoples, and the continuation of the war in Ukraine will lead to other humanitarian disasters, including threatening food security in many countries, especially in consuming societies and non-oil countries.

For her part, the Dutch Minister of Trade and Development Cooperation stressed the importance of Iraq as a pivotal country in the Middle East, praising its role in combating terrorism and stabilizing the region.

She indicated that the Netherlands is always ready to support Iraq at all levels. praising the steps taken by the Iraqi government to solve the refugee problem and return them from Belarus.

The United States and Britain decided to ban Russian oil and gas in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the European Union pledged to end its dependence on gas exports from Russia by 2030.
