I really appreciate all that Judy and her team have done to keep us informed of what has been happening or what is about to happen. After today’s post for 4/14/2023, I have a question that has really been bugging me even more now after today’s post. What about the Veteran? I keep seeing social security or those sixty-one and older but nothing about a 100% Disabled Vet. I filed for SSI and was denied because I did not have enough work hours. I went into the Air Force and Gulf War right out of High School in 1989. I am now 52 years old and have only recently in the last 3 years after fighting forever, just gotten my 100% rating. I should have been medically discharged for the time in the service, but the VA has been fighting me on it for every excuse in the book. I have severe spine damage and degenerative spine d-----e. I have PTSD and much more. All of which makes it impossible to work. I have had to stay at home because of my immune system, asthma, rashes, headaches, spine damage, and more. My big question is about the 15 years’ work comment. I do not have 15 years of work history and I cannot work anymore. The SSI has denied me without a lawyer. They tell me that I am not eligible because I do not have enough work history. Really, I cannot work anymore. I worked while in the service, while I was in High School when I got out of the service until I could no longer work. What am I supposed to do, what are they going to do for the Veterans that cannot work? If they do not have 15 years of work, do we get s-----d again? Why does no one ever talk about the Veterans and what they will get or need? The entire system s-----d me over. I was going to be a career soldier but when I got hurt in the service and could not perform my duties anymore, I was placed on an indefinite leave of my duties. They made up some c--p stories and f--e disciplines to kick me out. No one helped me when I got out, and I ended up on the streets for a while, almost taking my own life. I got my s--t together and after 2 years a Veterans of Foreign Wars service helped me file my claims. The VA immediately denied me for everything because I did not file right out of the service. That is total “BS”, I did not know that I even had any help when they kicked me out. Fast forward to the present, I am now service-connected for the same conditions that I have been claiming forever but even with a lawyer, they won’t backdate anything past 5 years ago for this loophole or that excuse, they fixed it to where I get nothing; even though I should have been medically discharged.
So, I don’t have 15 years and I haven’t worked since 2005 so what happens to me, I don’t get s--t, I’m s-----d over again? Please help me to understand what happens to the Veteran that can’t work? As I said, I am 52 and I get a lousy $4K a month and have stayed home to help raise my 2 daughters while my wife works as a mortgage processor. What are they going to do for the Veterans? You know, the ones who gave everything so everyone else can get a free ride?
Thanks,
Michael R
