In the second quarter, U.S. consumer spending showed a slower growth rate than initially stated, primarily attributed to diminished expenditures on services, as per government data.
The third estimate of the gross domestic product from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis revealed that personal consumption, a key factor in the U.S. economy, increased at an annualized rate of 0.8% during the April-to-June period. This figure is lower than the 1.7% reported in the previous estimate and represents the least robust advancement in over a year.
The U.S. national debt has reached an approximate sum of 33 trillion dollars. Since 2001, the U.S. government has consistently spent more than its revenue, necessitating borrowing to cover the deficit.
The national debt surged by over 89% since the onset of the pandemic, with many leading economists concurring that 2020 was not the time to be overly concerned about the debt.
