Over the last five decades, despite an overall expansion in the economy, the well-being of most Americans has diminished. While the affluent have seen an increase in their wealth, the incomes and wages of the typical American family have remained stagnant. Consequently, our societal structure has become top-heavy, with even those at the pinnacle feeling the impact of economic crises.
The American economic landscape is fundamentally shaped by a dichotomy of winners and losers. The narrative suggests that a certain level of inequality is necessary for economic growth, and the discomfort experienced by some workers, mainly those at the lower rungs of the economic ladder, is deemed a necessary trade-off for the well-being of everyone else. However, this discomfort is no longer confined to the lower echelons, as individuals higher up on the economic hierarchy are increasingly grappling with it.
