A recent video by Epic Economist reveals alarming news about the state of the American economy, with more and more people struggling to keep up with bills and resorting to desperate measures just to get by. This economic hardship crosses all income levels, with even those in the middle class and above feeling the strain.

The cost of living in the United States has risen significantly, while the average worker’s paycheck has not increased at the same rate. As a result, the standard of living for many Americans is deteriorating rapidly. A recent poll commissioned by the National True Cost of Living Coalition uncovered striking findings, with two-thirds of middle-class Americans report experiencing economic hardship. This figure includes individuals earning at least $60,000 annually for a family of four, an income level that is often considered middle class.

Furthermore, many higher-income Americans are also feeling financially insecure. The survey revealed that a quarter of individuals with an annual income of more than $150,000 for a family of four are worried about paying their bills on time.

‘Many Americans are still gasping for air financially,’ notes Jennifer Jones Austin, chief executive officer of the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies. ‘They simply don’t have the breathing room to plan beyond their present needs.’

These figures paint a dire picture of an American economy designed to favor a select few, leaving the majority struggling with debt, high interest rates, and constant economic strain. Even with high employment rates, the country finds itself in an untenable situation where the fight for survival—securing food and a place to live—is a constant battle for many hard-working citizens.

The escalating cost of living is crippling families, forcing them to heavily rely on debt to make ends meet. With record-high interest rates and living expenses constantly on the rise, getting out of this vicious debt cycle seems impossible for many.

Compounding these issues further, a significant portion of the population cares for vulnerable family members like children or elderly relatives, adding to their financial strain.

The rising costs of healthcare, housing, and education make matters worse, with no indication that things will improve anytime soon. People across the country are calling for substantial policy changes to reverse the economic disparities that are plaguing the majority of Americans.

It is time for policymakers to consider the deteriorating living standards and financial insecurity faced by millions of Americans. What can be done to alleviate the burden that has left most drowning in debt, fearful of the future, and unsure of how to proceed?

Shining a spotlight on the Dismal State of the Economy

While positive economic indicators like low unemployment rates and GDP growth are often touted, a more nuanced view of the American economy paints a far more troubling picture. The reality is that millions of hard-working Americans are deep in debt and struggling to stay afloat.

As stagnant wages continue to amplify the wealth divide, the fight to close the income gap is more relevant than ever. There needs to be a concerted effort to understand and address the intricate and problematic framework that has not only paved the way for such discrepancies to flourish but also upheld and protected these inequalities for generations.

It is time to take bold and meaningful steps towards creating a fairer economic landscape that improves the lives of hard-working Americans, not just the financial interests of the elite.
