I am very surprised that we are still waiting. But things look to be very close.

Lots of rumors out there it’s about to start or has already started. I can tell you confidently that they are not yet exchanging in Iraq. But they are very hopeful things will kick off shortly. A number of them are hopeful for this weekend. But it hasn’t happened yet.

Article:
“Parliamentary foreign ministry holding the Arab summit in Baghdad holds special importance for Iraq”

We are hearing  from bankers and folks in Iraq that one of the agreements to hold that summit was a revalued currency. This summit is for the entire Arab region and will be held next month in Iraq.  Let us hope they keep the promises that they made. They need to get busy in the next few weeks if they are to have a new rate.

[Iraq boots-on-the-ground report]

FRANK: ATMs are now in position. They’re bringing them forth. Not all are out I know but just curious, do you think they have the lower notes in them right now?

FIREFLY: Mr Sammy wants you to know IHO no lower notes in them yet. But soon.

FRANK: Smile!!!

I am concerned about the budget which I believe has the origin, which I believe has the new exchange rate and I am concerned about the gazette which I believe is hiding the new exchange rate. Everything else waits for the new exchange rate.

The dong? Oh my goodness. I have a feeling next month in May we’re going to be talking about the dong.  I hope we’re done talking about the Iraqi dinar pretty soon…But the dong?  Oh my word…

…Based on my recent conversation with my CBI contact in Iraq…she also agrees with the rest of the citizens that if the Iranian issue can be resolved, they are going to move ahead with the currency reform effort and complete it…

“Upcoming meeting between Baghdad and Erbil to remove the Kurdistan oil export file”

We all know they haven’t started pumping oil.  They’ve charged the pipeline…It’s in print that they’ve done that.  It’s been tested.  It’s been really since 2023 and they haven’t started flowing the money yet Why …Because they don’t have the real effective exchange rate to do so at this stage.

I think Iraq is far more ready than many people believe.  But because of the nature of this I still believe there is that inter-connectivity issue and it’s something that’s beyond our pay grade.  We just don’t know exactly when they’re going to do it and we’re not supposed to know.  It’s pretty obvious we’re not supposed to know…

Article quote:
“For the last three years Iraq has enjoyed relative stability, good oil prices and a growing economy. For those who invested in the Iraqi stock market, returns of over 100% are common and GDP in 2025 is estimated to be up to 5%.”

This comes from the IBBC at their recent meeting. As you can see, Iraq is doing quite well and life is moving forward for the Iraqi’s. They are doing all of this with a REER of 1300 which has been stable for three years.

During the first quarter of 2025 the Central Bank of Iraq introduced a new feature allowing direct transfers between debit cards as part of its effort to expand electronic payment systems… The bank confirmed individuals can now transfer funds from one debit card to another with a single transfer limit of 400,000 dinars or its equivalent in US dollars. Monthly transfers can total up to 2 million dinars. This move aligns with the CBI’s broader strategy to modernize financial services and promote digital transactions across Iraq.
