Say What?
September 2, 2025
By Steve Beckow
“Under this reset, the landscape of Social Security has been redrawn, creating a new order where some recipients are rewarded with early or even double payments due to the September 1st holiday calendar adjustment, while others, flagged for overpayments or discrepancies, are finding their monthly checks slashed by as much as half, the clawback machinery activated without hesitation to recover billions of dollars previously lost to systemic inefficiency and outright a***e. “(1)
Say what?
With all respect, I question the fairness and legality of “clawing back” money that was sent to a recipient out of “systemic inefficiency.” Surely the system is responsible for its own errors.
The recipient will have spent the money long ago. And why not? How would the recipient know about “systemic errors”? And, even if they did, how are they to address or change the situation? What else is there to do but accept and spend the money?
Some people are now getting double checks. Should they spend them? Can you trust a government that blames you for its own mistakes? Maybe we should put the money in a sock drawer for a year to test the government’s sincerity.
Not a good arrangement. Rethink please.
