Dinarland Highlights – 8.5.26

…they came right out and told us it is the Iran conflict thats hindering the start of the project to remove the zeros… But my CBI contact is keeping us informed. They do want to target January 2027 again. Can they do it? There is lots of cleanup still to do with these Iranian backed militia and factions but this is supposed to be completed by end of September 2026. The US coalition just announced they are now moving out of Iraq as their part of the deal to disarm the militia…

…we know that the Dinar for us that go to the redemption centers will be offered as a contract rate, which is very high, very high…there’s no contract rate on the dinar except at the redemption center

Iraq is going through a liquidity crisis… salaries have not been paid yet. I find it very interesting that Iraq is sitting on about $94 billion in reserves, not including their gold holdings. They clearly have enough capital, they have enough cash…The government is definitely under a lot of pressure here which I think is a good thing…That means they have to make some type of fiscal change or monetary change.
The CBI rate still has the Iraqi dinar pegged at 1310 dinar per US dollar. So for anyone who is saying they got paid, anyone who is saying they cashed in their dinar, I would argue they are most likely lying to you.

Right now Iraq is claiming they only have a currency shortage to pay salaries. They can pay all their other bills. I searched the news for two hours a day. I have not seen one article saying they can’t pay any other bills…They’re able to pay all their other bills, just not salary payments. Think about that carefully…Why is it they can’t only pay salaries? Because in a new budget period with a pending rate change they would have to adjust salary pay scales and approve the budget. To approve the budget, the new currency value has to exist and be in place…This suggests to me the rate changing is most likely in August.
Question:
“I got my dinar in Iraq at a military base. I don’t have a receipt?”
Receipts are not critical in this. The banks have machines that should do three things for you, count, sort and authenticate your foreign currency. Even if the machines they use that do the counting don’t have the cameras to do the imaging and scanning or authenticating, they still have security cut sheets where they can visually inspect your notes. All that receipts are for are for you taxes. They might get you a lower tax rate depending on how long you’ve had your currency.

“Purchasing power under pressure: The impact of delayed salaries on the local economy – Urgent”
Quote:
“salaries represent the main source of income for millions of Iraqi families, and any delay in their disbursement leads to a decline in purchasing power and a decrease in spending rates, which is reflected in various commercial and service sectors.”

“Does the increased money supply threaten the stability of the Iraqi economy? Al-Zaydi’s advisor explains the risks”
Quote:
“The Prime Minister’s financial and economic advisor, Mazhar Muhammad Salih, revealed…the issuance of currency in Iraq recorded a remarkable increase during the first five months of 2026, reaching about 113.560 trillion dinars by the end of May, an increase of 13.761 trillion dinars, or 13.8%, compared to the end of 2025.”

A public who has spent weeks hearing the state cannot pay [their salaries] will greet the [rate] change as rescue, which it was designed to look like…The dinar moves last behind the [open cabinet] chairs and the budget. But when a government this rich starts telling its people it is this poor what you are watching is stagecraft. And the stage is being set for the one event that ends the play… Baghdad is rehearsing a crisis. Shows only get released when opening night is booked.

[Iraqi bank friend Aki update]
Aki says there is a serious shortage in our markets for our currency. They are fearful to use the 3-zero notes but they are no longer an issue. A good amount were collected and brought to the banks when the monetary reform education started. The 3-zero notes are gone and that’s what’s causing a lot of problem with the citizens in the market…Right now there is a huge demand for 2-zero notes…The LDs will be coming out very shortly and until that time the 1-zero notes will become also in great demand.

No currency is guaranteed to rise. Economic data, central bank decisions and global events can change the outlook of any currency quickly.

Holders of illicit or laundered funds have strong reasons to stay outside the formal system. They do not want the scrutiny that comes with depositing large cash amounts…‘Where did you get this?’ …They’ve been warning and warning and warning and telling us they’re going to potentially be doing the deletion of the zeros. Think about all those folks that have billions of dinar. They’re afraid to get it into the system because they got it by illicit means. Just wait until they adjust the Real Effective Exchange Rate and see what happens because they only give them a month…It forces the legitimate mass back into the system and leaves the rest exposed or stranded. I would not want to be holding the bag with a billion dinars in Iraq.
