Dinarland Highlights – 9.24.26

Okay, so we have a timeline… later this week is how it was said. I’m going to say…probably Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and if not, we default to next week…but it could very well go all the way to the end of the month.

… news is all about extending the Sept 30th deadline to disarm the Iranian-backed militia and factions inside Iraq. …According to the recent news Al-Zaidi [is] to revisit Washington this week, on his trip also to the UN…remember that this issue of the…Iranian-backed militia and factions is still on the radar of the US and must be settled prior to any reinstatement.
Article Quote:
“The apparent setback in the dismantling of armed factions in recent weeks may not mean the plan is over. It could simply be a political maneuver before the government’s September 30th deadline.”

Full sovereignty before September 30 means the US umbrella lifts. When that umbrella lifts, Iraq’s currency needs its own spine and the spine is the peg. You cannot be a sovereign state with a non-convertible, non-internationally-traded currency. That’s not a preference, that’s a prerequisite.

Article:
“After the Trump-al-Zaidi meeting… Government spokesperson: A new phase with Washington focused on arms control, sovereignty, and energy and investment opportunities”
Quote:
“According to the government spokesperson, the meeting between al-Zaidi and Trump in New York outlined the features of the next phase in relations between Iraq and the United States, through two parallel tracks; the first relates to completing the requirements of sovereignty and restricting weapons to the state, and the second to expanding the partnership in the fields of energy, investment, and development.“
Article quote:
“US Special Envoy to Syria and Iraq…Barak explained that following the meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Federal Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, the two sides reached a shared conviction that the state alone should be responsible for the armed forces, and that weapons in all their forms should be under official control by the end of June of next year.”

No extension…Three militias have already folded into the state, Rubio says at least one is still refusing…The holdout militias spent all summer betting on one question. Would Washington blink? …Asked whether he was confident in Baghdad’s Prime Minister, Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not hedge: “We have zero doubt of his commitment to doing this.” …Ali al-Zaidi has not asked Washington to extend the deadline for bringing the country’s weapons under state control…a deadline Washington now says will not move: September 30.
The Iraqi dinar was born in 1932, the same year Iraq became independent with British air bases still on its soil. The last British forces left in 1959, and that same year the currency’s peg moved onto the dollar at $2.80…one of the highest valued currency units in the world at the time…American air defenses are leaving Erbil ahead of the coalition’s exit [Scheduled for September 30, 2026] …

There’s multiple levels of sovereignty… political…military…financial…To have financial sovereignty they can’t be using the US dollar for trade. They would need possession and control of their reserves, the OPEC oil dollars…Changing the rate is needed to complete that sovereignty …We don’t know how achieving 100% sovereignty with…the rate change factors in with the level of restricting weapons to the [Iraqi] state. That’s the unknown variable…We don’t know how those two steps mesh together.
As we get closer to September 30th, with the full withdrawal of US forces, do you see Iraq overall transitioning from a war era to a bilateral business era? I do. For example, PM Zaidi…signing/massing business economic trade agreements. Plus they have all these new taxes coming forward. They have the prepaid transit fees coming forward on October 1st. Major things happening as we get close to this date of September 30th at which US troops will be completely out of Iraq...

Whenever you see the words redenomination or deletion of the three zeros to me that is reassuring…Anytime there’s any type of revaluation or reinstatement it has to be accompanied by some form of redenomination but they’re never going to tell you when they’re going to revalue or reinstate their currency...It would crater their entire economy and country.
No one could ever prove 100% of a revaluation reinstatement, we are not going to know that until we are on the other side of this. That’s just the truth of the matter. Until this finally happens, we are not going to have that answer. That’s why it is speculation. That’s why it is an investment...It takes childlike faith to believe you could invest $1,000 US which would buy you a million dinar and that million dinar could possibly be worth a million dollars USD or possibly up to…$3 million. It’s speculation.

Baghdad is turning the old September 30th deadline into the beginning of a larger disarmament process, rather than the date by which everything must be finished. Baghdad is preparing a new plan…Former Prime Minister Al-Maliki said yesterday that a formal timetable and program for bringing weapons under state control will be announced on September 30th…Al-Maliki made those comments while meeting US Charge d’Afaires Stephen Fagan in Baghdad. We now have three things happening simultaneously. Al-Zaidi is in New York telling Washington Iraq intends to eliminate independent armed groups. Political leaders back in Baghdad are negotiating the September 30th roadmap, and some of the most powerful Iran-aligned factions are still refusing full disarmament… Reports have linked US pressure over the militia to Iraq’s access to dollar flows…That makes September 30th potentially a major news day for the Iraqi dinar…

A currency is not a lottery ticket. A currency is a country’s unit of account backed by an institution that can keep the prices stable, low inflation, meet demand for foreign currency, like we have…and to talk to other central and commercial banks under the rules the world recognizes. That insinuation in Iraq is the central bank…The world recognizes a currency when banks can send/receive value, trade-invoices can be settled, and when the central banks’…official rate is the rate used in the budget…The official [dinar] rate has been held as a policy choice [not the central banks’ determined rate]…

It’s not what they say…It’s what they don’t say…They’re not telling you the whole truth and nothing but the truth…They’re purposely leaving [things] out to curb and deal with speculation.
