I was told not to write this down. I’m writing it anyway.
The building doesn’t look like a bank. It doesn’t look like a government office. It looks like a military installation that was built for something else and repurposed in a hurry.
There were no tellers. No marble. No glass. Just a corridor, a scanner, and a door that opened when I placed my hand on it.
Inside, there was a chair. A screen. A man in civilian clothes who never told me his name. He asked me three questions. None of them were about money.
He asked me if I understood what I was signing. He asked me if I was ready to walk away from the old system. He asked me if I was willing to keep my mouth shut until the EBS fires.
I said yes to all three.
The screen lit up. My birthright value appeared — a number I had never seen before, a number that had been calculated from a lifetime of stolen interest. The debt column next to it was empty. Not zero. Empty. As if it had never existed.
