Dinarland Highlights – 10.25.26

MarkZ

[via PDK]

Question: What are you hearing from bond contacts that make you think this is our last poor weekend?

MarkZ: Let’s just say they believe its our weekend and that something very special happened the middle of [last] week. They believe after this weekend its all a “GO”…I am hoping we finally cross the finish line by [this] week. Hoping this is our last poor weekend.

“AFTER HALF A CENTURY OF ABSENCE, PRESIDENT AL-ZAIDI BRINGS IRAQI SHIPPING  BACK TO THE SEAS AND OPENS A NEW GATEWAY FOR GLOBAL TRADE”

Quote:
“The Iraqi government, headed by Ali al-Zaidi, is preparing to reinstate the national shipping line to regional trade routes after an absence of more than half a century…”

Yes, another move to bring Iraq back to the “glory days.” …they will need this to join the World Trade Organization (WTO). It’s coming…All VERY Good news!

Removing zeros…is coming back as a legislative discussion…They’re telling you it’s still in decision phase of parliament…which means it’s very close to being voted on and approved just like the ’27 budget…

Question:
“Will we need to do a humanitarian project to be paid?”

No…You just go to the bank and exchange.  I’m not sure what a humanitarian project has to do with this but apparently you’re listening to the wrong people...Humanitarian projects have nothing to do with this.

The dinar is not live on Forex. It does not trade internationally, so a bank that took the notes would have no rate to price them at and nowhere to sell them on. Retail branches buy foreign cash from wholesale banknote firms that deal in currencies with a real two-way market. The main system banks use to settle foreign exchange between themselves handles 18 currencies, and IQD is not one of them. The new official rate of 1,500 set in Baghdad on 7 October 2026 is a price for dollars inside Iraq, not a market the world’s banks can trade against. What changes this is one thing: the dinar going live on Forex as a real international exchange rate.

Devaluation, revaluation and deleting the zeros are 3 different things. They get mixed together constantly, so it is worth separating them.  A devaluation lowers what the currency is worth against the dollar. That is what happened on October 7. A revaluation, the event people call the RV, raises it. That has not happened.  A redenomination, or deleting the zeros, swaps old notes for new ones with fewer zeros on them. It changes the numbers printed on the paper and leaves what the money buys untouched. That has not happened either.

“REMOVING ZEROS FROM THE IRAQI DINAR: A GOVERNMENT MOVE REOPENS THE ISSUE”

A REER – Real Effective Exchange Rate – is the adjustment that comes…once channels can absorb more [exchange] volume with less intervention…

Article quote:
“The issue of removing zeros from the Iraqi currency has returned to the forefront of economic discussions, following statements by a member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Riyadh Al-Tamimi, in which he revealed a government trend to remove zeros from the Iraqi dinar or change the currency, in a move that reopens one of the most prominent monetary issues that has remained on the table for years without moving to the stage of comprehensive implementation…If it is decided to remove three zeros, the sum of one million dinars may become a new thousand dinars, with prices, salaries, deposits and financial obligations being recalculated in the same proportion, so that their real economic value does not change as a result of the conversion alone.”

Question:
“Do you believe the dong and the dinar will be revalued at the same time?”

No, very close together, within a year IMO.

Some people may be under the impression they can escape the IRS and their State boards of revenue, they cannot…My background was as a criminal investigator assigned to a federal d**g task force and we had a IRS CID agent assigned to our unit. When we couldn’t catch them with d***s we used IRS CID to dismantle their financial network and assets very effectively I might add. According to IRS 988 this would be ordinary income and I suggest paying estimated taxes right after we exchange. Banks reports out these types of exchanges so there is no way out of paying taxes.

I highly recommend having a tax attorney, tax strategist.  CPAs are great for filing your taxes, but they are not tax strategists. You want to have a tax attorney on board how can help you minimize your tax liability as much as possible...With 95% likelihood this is going to be taxes at ordinary income – 37%.  If you live in a state where you have state income taxes on top of that you’re looking at closer to 40%.  You don’t want just a CPA, you want to have a tax attorney.  Very very important…I plan on having a CPA and a tax attorney who are going to work closely together to mitigate my tax liability.
