Parliamentary Moves To Reduce The Price Of The Dollar In The Next Parliamentary Session

Representative of the State of Law coalition, Hussein Nehme, confirmed, on Thursday, that the next parliament session will put the file of the high exchange rate on the parliament table.

Nehme said in a statement to the “Information” agency, that “there is a great parliamentary move by members of the state of law to reduce the dollar exchange rate and return it to its previous position,” noting that “our project in the fifth session is to reduce the price of the dollar.”

He added that “there are great moves to put the dollar file on the parliament table in the next session to ensure a reduction in its price in the coming days.” He pointed out that “the rise in the price of the dollar by the government raised the prices of all foodstuffs and made the market in a very difficult situation due to the rise, which directly affected the citizens.”

The economic expert, Nabil Jabbar Al-Ali, expected, earlier, a jump in oil prices during the coming days, after stabilizing the threshold of 75 dollars, stressing that the recovery of oil prices is a justification for reconsidering the exchange rate of the dollar?

Earlier, contractors in Diyala province accused the caretaker prime minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, of being behind the setback in the construction market and its decline by more than 40%.  LINK

I presume in general sense Iraq is now aligned more with Western countries regarding working hours and government scheduling that their parliamentary sessions would be concurrent with the Western calendar. If so I also ponder if this thought turns out correct.

Budget session of Parliament to begin on Jan 31, to be held in two parts. Budget session of Parliament is set to commence on January 31 and will conclude on April 8. The first half of the budget session will run from January 31 to February 11.

Normally, three sessions are held in a year: Budget Session (February – May) Monsoon Session (July – September), and. Winter Session (November – December). Hopefully things by this time the session concludes we see the new exchange rate if they are so excited about how the 2022 Budget is performing due to high oil prices.

We should be at least a bit more jubilant than yesterday going forward without the constant up and down political theatrics by actors in the GOI. Where might we end up if things go South if they decide to postpone?

One could only guess but state law Representatives seem very adamant about the new exchange rate being released or the dollar being reduced prior to opening the budget. So should it matter how long the next session plays out?

No, I think we have a lot to look forward to in short order maybe be relieved of our constant worry about this saga and when it will end.
