“Are ATMs Trustworthy?” by Danlboon – 11.26.22

If you make a deposit with cash or check into an ATM will it be properly verified as valid, or will it reject it or even refuse to return it if the machine says it’s not good?

On Friday I withdrew funds from a Wells Fargo ATM from a few accounts and then went to my credit union ATM to deposit those same $50’s along with some cash $20’s I already had.

I inserted the Notes in three separate stacks with one $50 Note being rejected on the first stack, then I inserted the other two stacks without problems, and that $50 Note came from a Wells Fargo ATM.

Then the last time I saw the total it was the correct amount over $1,000, and then I inserted the $50 Note again and it came up with an ERROR and cut off the transaction with the receipt stating only that and no amount, and I could have lost all that money like betting at a casino.

I then logged in and asked for a ‘Balance Inquiry’ and on the receipt it showed only what was in there prior to my deposit, thus I had to go inside and talk with a clerk to get it resolved.

It took a while to give the info to the clerk of what happened and the total amount and how many of each notes I put into the ATM, and the clerk said they needed someone to open the ATM and verify if my Notes were all there, yet the person was not available at that time, yet when I got home more than two hours later I logged in on the internet and it was there along with the clerk calling me about 20 minutes later to say it was in, thus resolved time much more time.

This happened to a friend of mine last year where he only needed a $5 deposit and the Wells Fargo ATM refused it and rejected to return it, yet he was able to ask for a new one inside as it was only a $5 loss for the bank if it was actually lost.

Which way will it go if the ATMs do not count the FRNs or the USTNs properly? And you then have to go inside to deal with a clerk or just go inside to start with and then you must have people asking questions about your deposits, withdrawals and Notes as the machines don’t work, thus they need People Currency Counters as I said before.
