Nearly 30,000 silver futures contracts have closed out since June 22. That’s 1 out of every 5 contracts, and that most likely means a major trend change is imminent. Longs are bowing out, shorts are covering, and we are now below 120,000 contracts, right near a 10-year low. The bottom may not be in exactly, but the amount of runway once the bottom is in, is very long.
In other news, a ruling on the London Metal Exchange case of reversing trades in the wake of the March 2022 nickel short squeeze, is expected in about 3 weeks. If the LME loses, it could mean the end of the exchange, and possibly even contagion to the rest of global paper futures markets.
And the Fed does a bunch of stress tests again and says everything’s fine again.

Wow! Everybody has been asking what the new notch on gold and silver eagles were for but nobody could figure it out. I just did! The notch is a designated space for Honeywell’s new surface detectors that can authenticate any individual metal coin by it’s unique surface composition! I figured it out thanks to my interview of the Mint’s Head of American Eagle Sales, Jack Sermon! Jack told me it was the ex-Mint Director, David Ryder’s, “Vanity Project” but nothing could be farther from the truth. Prior to returning to the Mint to redesign the American Eagle Program, Ryder worked for Honeywell as “Managing Director of Currency for Honeywell Authentication Technologies!” Here’s a description from the Honeywell website:
“Honeywell has also developed a family of highly sensitive and sophisticated detectors to enable our secure chemistries and create true lock-and-key solutions for our customers. We offer customized quality control, process control, high-speed sorting and handheld detectors to help you create banknotes and coins that are easy to authenticate but virtually impossible to counterfeit. These detectors are available as standalone or original equipment manufacturer units. They can also be designed to retrofit onto banknote or coin sorting equipment,paper manufacturing lines or hand held readers.”
