ARE WE THERE YET?
STILL ON THE SAME ROAD
1 October 2026
BAGHDAD
The Central Bank of Iraq is still running ordinary dinar-deposit auctions, not a new exchange-rate regime.
Latest published notice, 27 September: 7-day Treasury-bill auction W527 at 5.25%, plus Islamic certificate ICD835, both set for 28 September. Entry is tied to private-sector dinar deposits. That is liquidity management. It is the same pattern CBI has been posting through September.
IQD
Official rate used for the 2026 budget remains 1,300 dinars per dollar, unchanged since February 2023. CBI has publicly rejected redenomination and rate-change rumours. No new official rate has been announced.
MIAMI / SIBOS
Swift is using Sibos 2026 to show work already in motion: a shared blockchain ledger, ready for initial use since 9 July, with 17 banks preparing live cross-border trials on tokenised deposits. The ledger records payment commitments. Client funds can move outside banking hours. Final settlement still runs through existing RTGS and correspondent rails. Oracle, IBM and Cosmos have since built connections into that pilot.
WHERE THAT LEAVES IT
Banking plumbing: moving, in public
IQD policy: unchanged, watch official CBI only
Revaluation or reset: not announced, not verified
THE GAP
Faster rails and tokenised deposits are real projects with named banks and dates. They do not set the Iraqi dinar’s price. A rate change would have to come from CBI, on http://cbi.iq, as a new official rate. That notice is not there.
