GLOBAL PAYMENT INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENTS
Global payment systems took a real step forward on 4 October 2026.
This is about how money moves, not a change in currency values.
At a banking conference called Sibos, Swift said its Swift Ledger project is moving from an idea toward real use.
That includes digital forms of money that: can work together, new ways to send payments, live demos of cross-border transfers, and talk of payments that can run all day, every day.
A separate report says ANZ, BHP, Citi and Swift completed a real company payment on that system.
It was a US-dollar transfer between Melbourne and New York, using tokenised bank deposits. That means actual banks used it, not just a test in a lab.
A tokenised bank deposit is still a normal bank deposit.

The money sits at a bank, in the customer’s name, and the bank still owes it.
The new part is a digital token on a shared ledger that stands for that deposit, so banks can move or settle the claim faster and with a clearer record.
It is not a new currency, not crypto replacing the dollar, and not a change in what the deposit is worth.
What changed: the payment system is being used for real transfers.
What did not change: exchange rates.
These reports do not show a currency revaluation, a global reset, a new official rate, or any reason for the public to rush to a bank.
Faster, round-the-clock, digital cross-border payments are moving ahead.

That is not the same as proof that foreign cash people already hold is about to be repriced.
